We have looked briefly at the importance of prayer, the Internet, and radio for reaching Chinese around the world. Now consider the strategic place of Taiwan.

We have seen that prayer is the most potent method for reaching Chinese with the Good News of Jesus Christ. There are other ways to share the truth, however. This month, we shall look at two: The Internet, and radio.

As we saw last time, the most effective form of service which we can render to the growth of the church among Chinese is prayer. Why?

God’s people invest millions of dollars in ministry to Chinese. Eager to share the love of Christ, thousands of Americans and others go Greater China each year in a variety of capacities. They are supported by dozens, perhaps hundreds, of organizations of all sorts.

More people speak Chinese as their mother tongue than any other language. Despite rapid church growth, the Han Chinese are the largest unevangelized people group in the world. Some analysts believe their nation will become not only the most powerful on the globe, but the most powerful in the history of mankind.

The passage of a new law requires the government of China to intervene with force if Taiwan makes a move towards independence, and even if it delays the unification process.

My visit to China in October confirmed and sharpened the impressions I had gained from reading over the past few years. Arriving on the eve of the National Day celebrations, which began October 1 and ran for almost a week, I saw firsthand the immense pride and patriotism of today’s China.

After almost six weeks in China and Taiwan, I have a clearer picture of the sorts of pressures believers face. In this letter, we’ll look at the situation in Taiwan.
