October 2025 Prayer Letter

China at Your Doorstep1

October 2025

Dear Praying Friends:

“You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39, quoting Leviticus 19:18).

“And who is my neighbor?” (Luke 10:29).

In the United States, our “neighbors” include 5.5 million people from China, plus more than 200,000 from Taiwan. Of this total number of people, about 300,000 are students. Every fall, these students make a huge impact on our university campuses.

For Christians, loving our neighbors must include doing all we can to reach them with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Why?

Because “there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12), and they cannot believe in this name unless someone tells them in some detail.

Also, because what happens overseas does not stay overseas. Chinese who trust in Christ in the West not only tell their friends here, but also their family and friends back home. Just last summer, five people from our small Chinese Sunday School class traveled back to China, where they could speak freely (in private) about their faith in Christ.

Since we returned from Taiwan in 1989, Dori and I have sought to love and serve Chinese “at our doorstep,” especially by exposing them to the good news of salvation by faith in Christ. The same is true for all our China Institute Partners and Global China Associates in North America.

What We Do

Starting at the beginning of 2025, Dori and I have participated in the Chinese Sunday school class that was begun by a couple from China who recently began attending worship at our church in College Station. The founder-leader asked me a few months ago to lead the discussion part of the meeting after we sing some songs in Chinese. I have found this to be a very demanding, but rewarding, opportunity to use my rusty Mandarin and re-learn how to guide a small group Bible study. Gradually, we are seeing the members of the class grow spiritually and in closeness to each other.

Since we moved to Texas in 2015, Dori has focused her time and energy on caring for our daughter Sarah and helping her care for our grandson. She also sings in the church choir and leads a women’s Bible study group.

Aside from the Chinese Sunday school class, my ministry to Chinese in the United States consists of prayer, both my own intercessions and weekly letters that seek to mobilize others to pray. My writings, some of which are translated, are meant to help Chinese people to understand the gospel and to equip others to serve him among the Chinese. Two books have enabled people to be more effective in their ministry to Chinese: Reaching Chinese Worldwide and China: Ancient Culture, Modern Society.

Through calls and correspondence, I endeavor to maintain relationships with several dozen Chinese whom we have met over the years. Occasionally, I am given opportunities to present the gospel to Chinese groups. As I said, all our CI Partners and GCC Associates have also sought to share God’s love with ethnic Chinese in the West.

Your Part

First, would you pray for us and our associates, that God would make us effective witnesses of Christ?

Then, as God leads, seek ways to build bridges of friendship with the Chinese living among us. Pray for openings to communicate Christ verbally to them. Volunteer to be a friendship partner with a local university. Join with people of your church, a local Chinese church, or other Christian ministries like Ambassadors for Christ (www.afcinc.org/en-us/); InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (https://intervarsity.org/); ISI (International Students, Incorporated; (internationalstudents.org); the Navigators (www.thenavigators.org); Bridges International (bridgesinternational.com); and Reformed University Fellowship (ruf.org).

Ambassadors for Christ (AFC) has some especially helpful materials for sharing Christ with Chinese. Write to me (wrightdoyle@proton.me) for more information.

Together, let’s do our part to “declare his glory among the nations” (Psalm 96:3).

Your brother,

Wright
