To Glorify God
September 2025
“To the praise of his glorious grace” (Ephesians 1:6).
Dear Praying Friends:
Speaking to the missions prayer meeting of the Chapel Hill Bible Church recently, I said that our ministry has one purpose: To glorify God for his glorious grace.
We serve two sorts of people: ethnic Chinese, and those who want to serve the kingdom of God among the Chinese worldwide.
We do this through two interconnected platforms, both very small: China Institute and Global China Center. CI is a “traditional” missionary agency, rooted in churches and seeking to build strong churches. GCC focuses on Chinese scholars of Christianity and Western scholars studying Chinese Christianity.
We employ four methods: Prayer. Publications (online and in print). Personal relationships. Proclamation.
Publications (Writings) Online
This month, I’ll focus on our online publications.
Weekly and monthly email updates aim to mobilize prayer for us, our associates, and Chinese people around the world. We glorify God by expressing our total dependence upon him to make our feeble efforts fruitful, and by recording his answers to our prayer. To subscribe, write to me at wrightdoyle@proton.me. You may find portions of these prayer updates on the China Institute website here and on my blog here.
The online Biographical Dictionary of Chinese Christianity (bdcconline.org) contains hundreds of stories, in English and Chinese, showing how God has used Western missionaries and Chinese Christians to glorify his name among the Chinese.
The BDCC seeks to achieve four goals: To glorify God for his grace in the lives of his faithful servants; to encourage Christians through the witness of those who have given us examples of dedication and service; to equip potential witnesses by showing “how it’s done”; and to refute the slanders of critics who claim that all missionaries were tools of Western imperialism and Chinese Christians were “running dogs” of the imperialists and traitors to their culture and country.
Reviews of books about Chinese Christianity and the missionary movement in China provide access to the best English-language literature on this vital subject. You can find three collections of these at the top of the page at reachingchineseworldwide.org/books. They are all works in progress.
Other books, some of them also under construction, deal with various topics and people, including Confucius and theologians Carl Henry, Augustine, and Lit-sen Chang. Truth and Life is a growing doctrinal and ethical commentary on the Bible. With Christ in Times of Trial in two volumes contains devotional meditations on the Psalms. And there are others, all of which can be downloaded as free pdf files from reachingchineseworldwide.org/books.
I am also working on my autobiography: Mercy All the Way, or, Tales of a Rambling Wreck.
Please pray that God will give wisdom and strength as I write and lead many to read and benefit from these publications.
Soli Deo Gloria!
