July 2025 Prayer Letter

Forward With Faith

July 2025

Dear Praying Friends:

As we enter the second half of 2025, we are aware of the rising challenges facing almost all Christians in Asia and the West, including the United States: Economic and financial instability, political strife, international conflicts and the threat of war, intensifying opposition from anti-Christian forces, and our own lukewarm faith, hope, and love.

But we also know that God has said, “Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; surely, I will help you; surely, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 43:10).

We tread the narrow and rocky path upon which Jesus has set us, but we are not alone. Through his Spirit, he goes with us, and we have the excellent company of our fellow Jesus followers, so we go forward with faith, knowing that we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses who have preceded us (Hebrews 12:1-2).

As always, our mission is clear: To reach Chinese around the world with the good news of Jesus Christ in all its fullness, declaring the “whole counsel of God” as faithfully as we can (Acts 20:27).

Our methods also remain the same:

Prayer

In addition to our personal intercessions, we send out weekly prayer updates (write to me if you want to receive these) and monthly prayer letters like this one. Feel free to pass them on to your friends.

Publications

  • The online Biographical Dictionary of Chinese Christianity (bdcconline.net) is my highest writing priority. After several years of composing long articles, I am switching now to (1) shorter articles taken with permission from others’ publications, and (2) translations of the excellent stories written by the BDCC’s Chinese editor, Dr. Yading Li. I plan to make use of translation software.

  • My autobiography, Mercy All the Way: Tales of a Rambling Wreck, which I have resumed writing after a lapse of ten years. Both the BDCC and my story are meant to encourage God’s people to trust in God’s grace and to follow Christ in faith despite our fragility, faults, and failures.

  • Reviews of books about Christianity in China, as requested by both Chinese and Western scholars to give us access to the work of experts in the field (www.globalchinacenter.org)

  • Truth and Life: Doctrinal and Ethical Notes on the Bible to help both others and myself appreciate the immense wealth and beauty of biblical teaching (www.reachingchineseworldwide.org/books).

Personal Relationships: Calling and corresponding with Chinese friends and with our partners in ministry for mutual encouragement.

Proclamation of God’s Word: Dori and I are happy to be a part of the new Mandarin Sunday school class that was started by a couple from China who attend our church. At the leader’s request, I alternate with him in guiding the discussion every other week.

Reaching Chinese Worldwide: Now more than ever! With China rising to world dominance and its people traveling and living almost everywhere, including the West, the spiritual needs of more than 1.4 billion people, and the spiritual potential of millions of believers demand our fervent intercessions and utmost efforts.

Would you join us in praying that God would be glorified in and through China’s millions as the gospel of Jesus Christ liberates many hearts and penetrates a major culture?

Yours in his service,

Wright
