April 2026 Prayer Letter

Overseas Chinese

April 2026

Dear Praying Friends:

Mainland China has been mostly closed to Christian witness from the outside since 2018, but that doesn’t mean that we lack opportunities to reach China’s millions with the gospel.

In addition to radio and the Internet, we have open access to more than 60 million ethnic Chinese living outside of China proper, and more than 20 million of them live in Taiwan.

Latest figures show that over 10.5 million Chinese who were born in China live outside of China, over 7.1 million of them in the United States and Canada. They represent the latest emigration of people from China.

This new Chinese diaspora movement has been driven by religious persecution, especially of Christians; economic insecurity or a desire for improvement; children's education; increasing restrictions in Hong Kong; and COVID.

Tossed to and fro, without a fixed place to live, and navigating the uncertainties of living in a very insecure world, these people represent a great opportunity for us to minister to those who are Christians and reach out to those who do not know Christ.

They need to hear the story of Jesus and the Cross, of his resurrection, ascension, current rule over the world, and coming kingdom. Otherwise, how can they believe and be saved from the wrath to come?

Almost all the Christians stay in close contact with family, friends, and churches back in China. They listen, pray with them, and even conduct online Bible studies with folks back home. In other words, what happens here doesn’t stay here!

Our Part

As you know, last year I spent a month in Taiwan, where two CI and GCC couples live and serve as witnesses of Christ. I continue to pray for and keep up with these former students, church members, and friends.

In the United States, Canada, and England, five couples and one single woman use a variety of platforms to demonstrate God’s love and share the Christian message with ethnic Chinese.

Dori and I take part in our church’s Chinese Sunday school class, which I teach. I also try to encourage China-born Christians by correspondence and conversations on the phone.

We currently have a Chinese graduate student staying with us for 2 ½ months, sharing our family and church life while she works on a Master’s thesis about a 19th-century Southern Baptist missionary to China.

And Yours

Please pray that

  • God will work mightily among this new Chinese diaspora.

  • Christians in the West will rise up and serve them in word and deed.

  • The Lord will use Dori and me and all our CI-GCC people to serve as effective witnesses.

  • God would lead you to invite at least one Chinese person to church this weekend. Who knows? This might be their first step toward the one who died and rose for them and thus to the God who sent his Son to save us from our sins.

Yours in his saving love,

Wright and Dori
