August 2026 Prayer Letter

WHAT, WHY, AND HOW

August 2026

Dear Praying Friends:

As a new academic year begins, allow me to refresh your memory about the WHAT, WHY, AND HOW of our mission.

WHAT

  • Since we left for Asia in 1975, we have been seeking to declare to ethnic Chinese “the unsearchable riches of Christ” (Ephesians 3:8).

  • We work through China Institute – a church-related ministry – (China Institute) and Global China Center, a ministry to and among scholars who study Chinese Christianity (Global China Center).

WHY? Because...

  • “God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16), and “whoever calls upon the name of the LORD shall be saved” (Romans 10:13), but

  • People cannot “believe in Him of whom they have not heard, and they cannot hear without a preacher” (Romans 10:14) - that is, someone to share the good news with them and,

  • At least 1.2 billion Chinese have never heard the gospel of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, and

  • Most of them don’t have anyone close enough to tell them about Christ.

HOW do we seek to reach them? Through...

  • Prayer: In addition to our own prayers, I send out weekly and monthly prayer letters. (China Institute) Write to me if you want to receive the full texts of these letters; truncated versions are posted on the China Institute website.

  • Publications

    • Stories about missionaries and Chinese Christians posted on the English and Chinese pages of the Biographical Dictionary of Chinese Christianity website (BDCConline.net). which receives over 240,000 unique visits a year.

    • Books, both online and in print. For a list, go to Books — China Institute.

    • Reviews of books about the growth of Christianity in China (Global China Center)

    • Articles about various subjects on my blog (WrightDoyle.com)

  • Personal Relationships with ministry partners and Chinese friends through phone calls, emails, and visits.

  • Proclamation of the gospel in our church’s Chinese Sunday school class, and in the women’s Bible study that Dori leads.

HOW CAN YOU SHARE IN THIS MINISTRY?

  • Pray for God to work in and through Dori and me and all our China Institute Partners, Global China Center Associates, part-time assistants, and Chinese and Western ministry partners.

  • Ask God to transform lives, bringing his light, love, and liberty to all whom we serve.

  • Explore the wealth of resources on our websites (click below on the screenshots of the websites to explore!).

  • Share these resources with others. Tell people about us!

Your fellow partaker in the immeasurable riches of Christ,

Wright
