“The LORD is my strength and shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped” (Psalm 28:7).
Dear Praying Friends:
Once again, David faces ungodly enemies. Clearly, they are too powerful for him, despite his prowess as a warrior. So, he turns to God.
He looks to the LORD to be his power [strength] and his protection [shield]. God will empower him to withstand the attacks of his foes and defend him against their assaults.
We also need power to do God’s will and we need protection against all the wiles of our deceitful enemy, Satan (see Ephesians 6:10-11).
How do we access these? By faith. “My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped” (Psalm 28:7). We turn to God in trust that he will shield us and enable us not only to stand against the wiles of the devil, but to do all that God wants from us.
Thank you for praying last week. God helped me to start a new story on Anglican Bishop John Burdon for the Biographical Dictionary of Chinese Christianity. Burdon was a pioneer evangelist, early friend of Hudson Taylor, Bible translator, church leader, and vocal critic of Britain’s aggression against China. His career refutes the frequent charge that missionaries were simply tools of imperialists.
“The LORD is their strength, and HE is the saving refuge of His anointed” (Psalm 29:8).
Yours in his mighty power and constant protection,
Wright
