Strength and Peace

“The LORD will give strength to His people; the LORD will bless His people with peace” (Psalm 29:11).

Dear Praying Friends:

Am I the only one who feels inadequate for the duties and difficulties of a new week and a new year? Or do others also sense a bit of apprehension over some things on the horizon?

Gazing in awe upon the mighty power of God displayed in a tremendous thunderstorm, David remembers that the LORD granted protection, provision, and peace to Noah and affirms that even now “the LORD sits as King forever” (Psalm 20:10).

He draws the inevitable conclusion that God will give his people strength for each day and thereby bless his people with peace amidst the storm.

Speaking of David, allow me to recommend that you see the David movie if you still can.* Dori and I found it deeply encouraging. In particular, the lyrics of the songs beautifully incorporated Scripture through paraphrase, allusions, and quotations, and the music was sometimes movingly grand.

“The LORD sat enthroned at the Flood, and the LORD sits as King forever” (Psalm 29:10).

Yours in his gracious sovereignty,

Wright

*Attentive viewers who know their Bibles will notice a few places where the film departs from the biblical narrative. In my opinion, these changes do not substantially violate the main message of the text.
