“I will cry out to God Most High, to God who performs [all things] for me. He shall send from heaven and save me . . . God shall send forth His mercy [steadfast love] and His truth [faithfulness]” (Psalm 57:2-3).
Dear Praying Friends:
Once again David is in trouble, deep trouble. Surrounded by deadly enemies, he has nowhere and no way to turn – except up. Which he does, calling out to God Most High to “send from heaven and save” him.
We all know that predicament. Our “enemies,” both physical and spiritual, both inside of us and around us, threaten to do us in, and there is no help in sight. That is when we can and must imitate David and turn our attention to God, who “performs all [things] for us” and who alone can bring us help from heaven.
All the Psalms point to Christ. In this one, the sufferings of David anticipate the constant dangerous opposition that Jesus faced, climaxing during Holy Week.
More specifically, the “mercy and truth” that God will send from heaven to save David find their fulfillment in Jesus, the Incarnate Word of God, who was “full of grace and truth” (John 1:16, 17).
Thank you for praying last week. The Lord enabled me to finish the story on Petrus and Susie Rijnhart (https://www.bdcconline.net/en/stories/petrus-and-susanna-susie-carson-rijnhart), write more on Hebrews 12 and the last chapter of my book on Lit-se Chang, write a couple of important letters, and make several calls.
Yours in his heavenly help,
Wright
