“Redeem Israel, O God, out of all their troubles!” (Psalm 25:22).
Dear Praying Friends:
David concludes this urgent cry for help with an appeal that gets to the heart of things: Redemption.
Sins burden his conscience. The way forward is hidden from him. Snares and traps threaten to ruin him. He is lonely, even desolate. Enemies surround him.
He sums it all up with the word “troubles.” They are many and they are great. Only God can deliver him.
But he is not worthy of God’s help.
To what, then, does he appeal? To the mercy and lovingkindness of the God who redeemed Israel from slavery through the death of all of Egypt’s firstborn and of a spotless lamb, whose blood was sprinkled around their doors (Exodus 11-12).
We call on Jesus, who has redeemed us from sin, Satan, the righteous wrath of God through the shedding of his own blood, that of a lamb without spot or blemish (Galatians 3:13; Ephesians 1:7; 1 Peter 1:18-19; Revelation 5:9).
Surely, he will grant us sufficient grace for each day and, finally, full deliverance from all our troubles!
“O Israel hope in the LORD; for with the LORD there is abundant redemption. And He shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities” (Psalm 130:7-8).
Yours in his boundless love,
Wright
