“Oh come, let sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For the LORD is a great God, and the great King above all gods” (Psalm 95:1-3).
Dear Praying Friends:
Yesterday our pastor preached another masterful sermon as part of our church’s study of Emotionally Healthy Spirituality. This one focused on our primary need to stop our frenzied life and draw near to God, both several times a day and once a week for a full day.
The thing that struck me most powerfully was that we should seek the Lord’s face, not mainly for what he can do or give, but for who he is, as we do with a close friend or loved one. He is lovely in himself and offers us the ultimate gift of intimacy with him through faith in Christ and the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
As we bask in his beauty and love, we can escape the snares and cares of this life and, in Charles Wesley’s immortal words, be “Lost in wonder, love and praise” (“Love Divine, All Love Excelling”).
“Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD our Maker. For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand” (Psalm 95:6-7).
Yours in the love of our Creator and Shepherd,
Wright
