“The law [Torah, teaching, revelation] of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; the statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear [godly reverence, awe] of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb” (Psalm 19:7-10).
Dear Praying Friends:
From the New Testament, we know that these words apply to the entire Old Testament and refer finally to God’s full revelation of himself and his truth in his Son, our Savior. He alone, the Incarnate Word, as he is revealed to us in Scripture, is “sweeter than honey” and more desirable than anyone or anything else (see 1 Peter 2:3).
Recently, a very busy wife, mother of two, teacher, and director of her church’s children’s education ministry wrote, “I feel depleted most of the time.” Of course, we can understand why! She wisely asked us to pray for her to find “rhythms of rest.”
Here’s how I responded, after assuring her that I would pray as she requested:
“How is your daily quiet time with God? Bible reading, reflection, memory, and prayer? Entirely by God’s grace, I have found that spending quality time with God daily is essential for wisdom, soul-nourishing connection with God, and spiritual vitality for the day.”
In addition to following a daily Bible reading plan, I listen to Scripture and pray while I'm doing my morning stretching and strengthening exercises and fixing breakfast.
