Hope And Praise

Hope and Praise

July 28, 2025

Dear Praying Friends:

David is old and gray-headed. As usual, he is surrounded by enemies, but now he lacks the strength that empowered him to triumph over mighty Goliath and defeat murderous men and foreign foes.

Still, he declares, “But I will hope continually, and will praise You yet more and more. My mouth shall tell of Your righteousness and Your salvation all the day” (Psalm 71:14).

How can he do that?

Because he remembers God’s past mercies: “By You I have been upheld from birth; You are he who took me out of my mother’s womb” (Psalm 71:6).

That doesn’t mean his life has been easy. Far from it! God has “shown [him] great and severe troubles,” almost to the point of death. But, he declares, the Lord “will revive me again, and bring me up again from the depths of the earth. You shall increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side” (Psalm 71:20-21a).

David places his confidence in the future firmly in the hands of the one who has delivered him in the past.

Two things stand out: 1. Like all the other Psalms, this one points directly to Christ, whom God brought through the Cross to resurrection glory. 2. We, like David and Jesus, will have to endure “great and severe troubles,” but like them, we will surely know God’s faithful presence and saving power. He will never fail us nor forsake us. Eventually, he will usher us into eternal glory.

Meanwhile, like David and the man Jesus, let us trust in God daily and show our faith with constant praise.

Thank you for praying last week. God gave me daily conversations with ministry partners and Chinese friends. The Chinese Sunday School class went very well. The Lord gave clear guidance about the rest of the summer.
