Give Thanks to the Lord!

Give Thanks to the Lord!

Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!” (Psalm 118:1 ESV).

Dear Praying Friends:

Although we ought always to give thanks to God for all things (Ephesians 5:20), the Source of all good gifts is God himself, especially his steadfast love (see James 1:17). That is why the Psalms repeatedly summon us to praise and thank God for his lovingkindness, which never changes but endures forever, founded upon his character, which is “good” in every way (Psalm 100:5).

So, no matter what happens, we can trust him to do what is good and right. In this psalm, which like all the others points to Christ, the writer recounts many trials and troubles, but ascribes deliverance to the LORD, to whom he has cried out in his distress (5-7, 10-13, 18, 22).

We experienced God’s unchanging love yesterday at Faith Bible Fellowship Church in Farmville, Virginia. This congregation has prayed for us almost from the beginning fifty years ago. Though not large, FBF Church has had a powerful impact upon this university town, on Virginia, and on the world through the ministries and missionaries they support, like us. Every Wednesday, their prayer meeting features intercessions which have included us for five decades now.

Love for God, each other, their neighbors, and their missionaries all make this a church a warm family to which we love to return. The photo does not include the thirty children who were in Sunday school downstairs. This is a vibrant, multi-generational, multi-racial congregation.

Thank you for praying last week. God enabled us to prepare for this trip and brought us safely to Farmville, though not without some difficulties. He also helped me preach in the service and blessed the sharing time over lunch, in which both Dori and I participated.

“Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!" (Psalm 118:1).

In his love,
Wright
