He Forgives

He Forgives

August 11, 2025

“He forgives all your iniquities” (Psalm 103:3).

Dear Praying Friends:

David summons his soul to “bless [praise and thank] the LORD for all His benefits,” and goes on to list at least seven blessings from God (3-7), beginning with the forgiveness of our sins.

I’ve always thought that David was right to name pardon for sins first, because all the others flow from this spring. Because God forgives us, he can give us all the other spiritual blessings of his love and grace.

And who doesn’t need forgiveness? It seems that the older I get, the worse I become. Or, at least, the more keenly I see my evil heart and wicked works (thoughts, words, and actions), and the more deeply I mourn for the manifold ways that I have offended against my Lord and hurt those around me.

But that is not the end of the matter! If we repent of our sins and place our trust again in Christ as the Mediator and as the Lamb of God who bore our sins in his body on the cross, God freely pardons us and wipes our record clean (1 John 1:9). Daily. Hourly. Always.

What freedom this gives us! We don’t have to carry the burden of our past offenses, for God remembers them no more (Jeremiah 31:34).

“Bless the LORD, O my soul!” (Psalm 103:22).

Yours in the riches of his grace,
Wright
