"Global" Wisdom

“Show me Your ways, O LORD; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day” (Psalm 25:4-5).

Dear Praying Friends:

David cries out for a vision of God’s ways, that is, the ways in which he deals with us and the ways in which he wants us to walk.

Sometimes, when we ask God for wisdom and guidance, we frame our question within certain parameters that we think are appropriate. We are looking for particular guidance: Should I apply to this school? Choose this major? Take this job? Date - or marry - this girl (or guy)? Move to that city?

It’s good for us to ask these questions, of course.

But recently I’ve discovered that I need something more basic. Before I ask such a question, or even start the day or enter a meeting, I need to know God his ways in general; his perspective on my life and on the overall situation that I face. The other person(s). Myself. And how he wants me to trust, love, and live in his presence.

In other words, I am so ignorant that I don’t even know what the question should be. Only as I see my world, myself, and others as he does will I be able to begin to approach each day with his perspective, his eyes, his heart.

This is what I call “global" wisdom, and it’s what I need first. Maybe you do, too.

Yours in his “global” wisdom,

Wright
